A taste of it

Most disappointing videos and most surprise invoices share one cause: the brief was a phone call. A written brief forces you to decide what the video is for before money is spent, gives every studio the same facts, and becomes the document you check the finished film against. A good brief is short. Two pages is enough. It answers five questions: why are we making this, who is it for, what should they think, feel or do afterwards, where will it be seen, and how much time and money do we have.

How to use it

Fill in the grey boxes in Word or print it. Answer every section even if briefly: a studio can only quote accurately from what you tell it. Send the finished brief to two or three studios at the same time.
